water bottles-who uses what?

Hi everyone,

I'm wanting a bit of feedback on which type of water bottle/holders works best.

I've got a camelback, but it causes a fair bit of sweat on my back, and the water warms up eventually, so what do people use on their runs.

thanks brendan

  • Thanks Laura, I'll check them out, you're right it can be a killer getting stuff posted from OS. cheers

  • I use a similar handheld made by "fuelbelt" I'm in Oz too and buy all my gear from www.fast gear.com.au. much easier on the hip pocket than overseas websites for postage.

I had tried numerous waist fuel belts and just hated it so the handheld is awesome for me. Like Thom said they fit really well (almost hang) on the hand so you don't have to grip it, which otherwise would get tiring on 30k+ runs.

I use a 650ml bottle and have little girl arms and its never been too heavy. ;)

    Good luck!

  • As long as you are training with it on your long runs it won't be an issue. As John mentioned you don't even really notice that it's there. I like to take a drink then switch hands, then 15 minutes later take another drink and switch hands. I've found that to be successful for me. I usally run with a 70oz pack for the first couple of hours and then switch to the hand held and a waist bottle for the end of the run/race. I like to have a better idea of how much water I have on me and this is why I switch from the pack.

  • Thanks john and thom I'll have to see if I can get that model is Oz. How long do you run for with the bottles? Do you find they get heavy after awhile?

    cheers brendan

  • thats the same on i use. i have the strap exactly as pictured and i allmost forget the bottle is there.

  • Hi Brandon,

I really like this one http://www.sportchalet.com/product/301638_3054059.do?keyword=Amphip...

I actually position the strap on the other side of what the picture shows. The curve on that side makes it so I don't even have to hold it. The strap and curve allow it to rest in my hand.
